80s Photo Prompt is an independent editorial library for people who want to create believable 1980s-inspired images with modern image models.

What this site does

The library turns a visual idea into a complete prompt: a year, camera behavior, film character, light source, wardrobe, setting, composition, and a short identity instruction. The goal is to help a visitor make a useful first attempt without relying on vague words such as “retro” or “nostalgic.” Each prompt can be copied, adjusted, and combined with a reference image in the visitor’s chosen model.

Pages are organized by scene and mood, including yearbook portraits, family snapshots, road trips, arcades, dance floors, studios, and neon streets. The examples use generic props and avoid readable brand logos so that the prompt remains adaptable and does not imply sponsorship or affiliation.

How the prompts are edited

Every entry is written around a specific photographic situation. We check whether the setting belongs to the stated year, whether the lighting and film language are concrete enough to guide a model, and whether the wording preserves a person’s recognizable features without promising an identical face. We also add correction prompts for common failures such as face mixing, modern objects, cropped hands, or excessive grain.

Some preview images are internal visual baselines used to explain the intended direction. They are not represented as ChatGPT or Gemini test results. Model behavior changes over time, so visitors should treat the prompt and the parameter notes as a starting point and judge the output themselves.
